Kinetik IT thanks everyone, including our staff who contributed toward making Christmas a great experience for a family in need. This year we were able to provide a single mother of four children with many things they needed and wanted, such as shirts, jeans, shoes, bathroom and grooming supplies, toys and season passes to Sunsplash water park.  

As a company we love to share our good fortune as a successful business with community charities. 

In her book, The Give-Back Solution: Create a Better World with Your Time, Talents and Travel, author Susan Skog outlines several ways that volunteering is beneficial not only to the recipients of the service, but also to those who perform it. The benefits include an overall boost in feelings of joy and happiness, a heightened clarity regarding one’s own calling, sharpened skills and improved job performance, an increased ability to maintain a hopeful and optimistic attitude, and gaining an appreciation for other people and places. As a company, and as individuals, Kinetik I.T. and its employees are dedicated to helping others in the community and around the world.

In addition to operating in an as eco-friendly manner as possible and regularly making charitable donations to hand-picked causes, Kinetik I.T.’s employees also volunteer on their own time—sometimes finding ways to involve co-workers and partners. Kinetik I.T. Web Designer & Content Specialist Vickie Florschuetz has been a Big Sister volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters since last year.

For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country, by developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

On June 7, 2014, Vickie, along with co-workers and partner organization IMP of Central Phoenix participated in a nation-wide fundraising event for BB/BS at the AMF Tempe Village Lanes, as part of a fundraiser for the national organization. With bowling tournaments happening simultaneously across the country, the annual event raises approximately $20 million a year, with 100% dedicated to benefiting program services. Kinetik I.T. with IMP owner, Jim McPhetres, and Manager, Tim Earick  supported the local division BB/BS of Arizona. With a bit of friendly competition between Team Kinetik I.T. and Team Sparks (named in honor of Vickie’s little sister), a total of 17 people attended and raised over $1000.

Learn Top 10 toxins to keep away from our pets to ensure their safety:

1. Flowers: Buttercups, morning glories, poinsettias and tulips can cause stomach pains, hallicunations and mouth irritation, if ingested by your pet.

2. Fruits: Grapes and raisins are extremely toxic for dogs. Ingestion can lead to irreversible kidney damage, which can result in death.

3. Plants: Elderberry, holly berries and potato plants can all cause your pets pain. The Arizona native sago palms plants can cause liver failure in both dogs and cats.

4. Chocolate: Can be toxic to dogs. Pure baking chocolate is extremely toxic to dogs.

5. Alcohol: It  causes vomiting, difficulty breathing and tremors.

6. Medications: Human medications can be toxic for pets.

7. Chemicals: Motor oil, battery acid, rat poison and bleach, if ingested by your pet, must be treated immediately.

8. Some Foods: Onions can cause anemia in cats and dogs, and the artificial sugar in toothpaste and chewing gum has been linked to problems.

9. Environmental Hazards: Mushrooms in the yard and contaminated water can critically hurt your pets.

10. Caffeine: Caffeine can cause damage to the heart, lungs, and kidneys, as well as hurt the central nervous system. Keep your pets away from caffeine pills, coffee beans, coffee and tea.

I do not know if any members are interested in or contributing to charity organizations. Early May 2009, the AZ Republic published a huge article about charity organizations and the abuse of funds by certain charity organizations. Impressive detective work and journalism at its best.
 
If you are interested, the web site that is extremely helpful and worth checking out, is: www.charitynavigator.org. I have used it frequently in the last year to determine which charities are the most effective in using the funds for their intended purposes.
 
Another organization that is very impressive, dealing with micro-financing of entrepreneurs in 3rd world countries, is www.kiva.org. An amazing organization.
